Nairobi- Mt Kenya Bandas (2,900m) 3hrs, 10km walk, 650m ascent. Embark on a captivating journey that begins with an 8:00 am departure from Nairobi. As you traverse the picturesque agricultural countryside, anticipation builds for the adventure that lies ahead. Arriving in Chogoria town, a delightful lunch awaits, providing nourishment and energy for the thrilling experiences to come. Following lunch, we transition to a sturdy 4x4 vehicle, bracing ourselves for an exhilarating drive that takes us to the precipice of the enchanting bamboo forest. Here, our trek commences, as we venture through the verdant, dense foliage, immersing ourselves in the beauty of the surroundings. Over a distance of 10 kilometers, we make our way through this captivating bamboo forest, our path guiding us to the esteemed Mt Kenya Bandas, where comfortable accommodations await, nestled in the embrace of nature's splendor. Mt Kenya Bandas – Lake Ellis Campsite ( 3,600m) 3hrs, 9km, 700m ascent. Following a satisfying breakfast and careful organization of porter loads, we embark on our ascent up the mountain at a comfortable and leisurely pace. Our route takes us on a slightly longer path, passing by the captivating Lake Ellis, where we are treated to breathtaking views of Mugi, Ithanguni, and the Giants Billiards Table. Alternatively, if we choose to follow the river near the road head for approximately 3 kilometers, we are rewarded with stunning foreground scenery and an abundance of captivating flora. A delightful lunch awaits us on the picturesque banks of a babbling stream, providing a tranquil moment of respite. From there, we veer towards the left-hand hillside, ascending to our secluded camp situated at approximately 3,600 meters. This campsite is thoughtfully positioned away from the more crowded and "touristy" areas, ensuring a serene and immersive experience amidst nature's embrace. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Accommodation: Lake Ellis Campsite ( Camping).
Lake Ellis – Minto`s Camp. ( 4,200m) 4 hrs, 12km, 600m ascent. Start your day early once again as we venture off the well-trodden paths, following a ridge ascent for approximately 3 hours. Eventually, we merge with the popular Chogoria route at around 4,100 meters, treating ourselves to breathtaking vistas of the Gorges Valley, Ithanguni, and the Northern Moorlands. Enjoy a delightful lunch break at a serene stream crossing before continuing for an additional hour to reach the Mintos Hut area at 4,200 meters, where we will spend the night. Take the afternoon to unwind at the campsite, or take a short 10-minute walk to the renowned "Temple" – a striking 150-meter vertical cliff that earned its name from the prayer-like stance visitors often adopt when peering over its edge. As we gear up for the summit attempt the next day, it is advisable to retire early in order to ensure sufficient rest and preparation. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Accommodation: Mintos Camp
Minto`s – Pt Lenana ( 4,985m)- Old Moses camp. 11-12 hrs, 785 ascent, 1,685 descent, 24km Embark on an exhilarating pre-dawn ascent towards the summit, commencing at 3:00 am. Over the course of approximately three hours, hike your way up to Point Lenana, the coveted hiker's summit, where you'll witness the awe-inspiring African sunrise. After taking in the breathtaking views, descend to Shipton camp for a well-deserved breakfast. Following breakfast, prepare for a five-hour descent through the enchanting Mackinder's valley. The descent is gentle, allowing ample time to soak in the captivating scenery, including the picturesque moorlands. Your journey concludes as you reach the Old Moses camp, situated at an altitude of 3,300 meters, providing a serene environment to rest and reflect on the memorable expedition.
