We set off on a 4 Days Adventure Up North in Marsabit County visiting Marsabit National Park, Chalbi Desert in North Horr, Lake Turkana in Loyangalani and Ngurunit.
We shall pass by the scenic Mt Ololokwe in Samburu County. The distinctive flat-topped shape and high sheer cliff drops of the 2,000m high Mt Ololokwe towering over the Samburu plains a short distance past Archers Post in Northern Kenya, never fails to turn heads.
Marsabit National Park
Marsabit National Park; A Remote Paradise Far to the north of Kenya. Far to the north of Kenya, a densely forested mountain and three crater lakes provide a haven for a variety of birdlife, mammals and reptiles. The beautiful Marsabit National Park is a refuge for huge tusked bull elephants, diverse birdlife and reptiles. Hikes in the dense forest, wreathed in mist can be enjoyed along with camel rides, bird watching and visits to the singing wells.

approximately 215 Kms from Marsabit will get us to North Horr; home to Chalbi Desert Dunes. Exploring sand dunes in Chalbi Desert becomes a growing pastime for adventurous Kenyans. The feeling of the cruiser giving in to the whims of gravity and the sand is unrivaled and should definitely be a staple in any worthwhile bucket list.
Loyangalani | Lake Turkana
After Chalbi Desert we end South to Lake Turkana; World’s largest alkaline and permanent desert lake. Its also home to Kenya’s second smallest ethnic group (El Molo Community) who live by the shores of Lake Turkana. They are around 465 pure el molo people and around 1000 in total.
Lake Turkana Windmills
The Lake Turkana Wind Power project is located in Loiyangalani District, Marsabit County, Kenya. It comprises of 365 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 850kW, and a high voltage substation that has been connected to the Kenyan national grid. Today the windmills—scattered across Turkana‘s stark lunar landscape and rocky hills—deliver 15 percent of Kenya’s entire installed capacity.
Ngurunit and Ndoto Mountains
We shall spend a whole 2 hrs swimming in the natural water pools of Ngurunit and later do quad biking in the sandy terrains as we wrap up our 4 days adventure up North.
