Overview

The overland takes you to the South Coast of Kenya by road. We shall be using an overland truck for transportation throughout our road trip.

Fort Jesus

The Fort, built by the Portuguese in 1593-1596 to the designs of Giovanni Battista Cairati to protect the

port of Mombasa, is one of the most outstanding and well-preserved examples of 16th Portuguese military fortification and a landmark in the history of this type of construction. The Fort’s layout and form reflected the Renaissance ideal that perfect proportions and geometric harmony are to be found in the human body. The property covers an area of 2.36 hectares and includes the fort’s moat and immediate surroundings.

Camping

We shall be camping at Tiwi beach on the South Coast. The only places on the Kenyan coast where you can pitch your tent right on the sand. The campsite is really lovely, with plenty of shady trees and basic toilet and shower facilities.

Kisite Mpunguti

Unspoiled, beautiful and sun-kissed, the Kisite Marine Park was established to protect the scenic islands and special habitats of a wide range of endemic marine animals and breeding migratory birds. It lies in the coral gardens south of Wasini Island and encompasses three small coral rag forest islands, each with considerable areas of fringing reef. Kisite is one of the most rewarding snorkeling locations on the coast. Visitors can also enjoy bird watching, diving and of course, sunbathing.
