Overview

A full week of safari fun! These are Kenya’s most popular parks and for a good reason. Our 7 Days Kenya Safari  takes you through the following destinations

Masai Mara National Reserve

The world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve needs little in the way of introduction. Its tawny, wildlife-stuffed savannahs are familiar to anyone who has watched nature documentaries. Reliable rains and plentiful vegetation underpin this extraordinary ecosystem and the millions of herbivores it supports. Wildebeest, zebras, impalas, elephants, Masai giraffes and several species of gazelle all call the Mara home. This vast concentration of game accounts for high predator numbers, including cheetahs, leopards and the highest lion densities in the world.

Lake Nakuru National Park

On the floor of the Great Rift Valley, surrounded by wooded and bushy grassland, lies the beautiful Lake Nakuru National Park. Visitors can enjoy the wide ecological diversity and varied habitats that range from Lake Nakuru itself to the surrounding escarpment and picturesque ridges. Lake Nakuru National Park is ideal for bird watching, hiking, picnic and game drives.

Naivasha

Naivasha is home to Lake Naivasha; Hugged by grassy banks and shingled with cacti and sand olive trees, the Rift Valley’s highest lake (at 1884m above sea level) extends like a vast, sunlit sea. But there’s more to this spot than the lovely blue lake. You can ride among giraffes and zebras, sip on a glass of Rift Valley red, look for hippos on the lake and relax in the garden at Elsamere, the former home of late Born Free personality Joy Adamson. It is also home to Hellsgate National Park,  a dry, dusty and dramatic but infinitely peaceful, Hell’s Gate is that rare Kenyan park made for bicycles and exploring on foot. Large carnivores are very rare indeed, so you can cycle past grazing zebras and bison, spot rock hyraxes or klipspringers as they clamber up inclines and watch dust clouds swirl in the wind. In the early morning the park is all aglow with its rich ochre soils and savannah grasses squeezed between looming cliffs of rusty columnar basalt.

Amboseli National Park

Amboseli belongs in the elite of Kenya’s national parks, and it’s easy to see why. Its signature attraction is the sight of hundreds of big-tusked elephants set against the backdrop of Africa’s best views of Mt Kilimanjaro (5895m). Africa’s highest peak broods over the southern boundary of the park, and while cloud cover can render the mountain’s massive bulk invisible for much of the day, you’ll be rewarded with stunning vistas when the weather clears, usually at dawn and/or dusk. Apart from guaranteed elephant sightings, you’ll also see wildebeest and zebras, and you’ve a reasonable chance of spotting lions, cheetahs and hyenas. The park is also home to over 370 bird species, and it has an excellent array of lodges and an agreeably mild, dry climate.

Tour Plan

After all the time you've spent planning and dreaming about going on safari, this is where it finally starts. Your guide will meet you and explain everything you need to know and answer any questions you might have. And then we'll go out on safari together. The time you spend in Lake Nakuru National Park is sure to be memorable. The park is most famous (and rightly so) for how easy it is to see black and white rhinos here, as well as the populations of lions (including some that, unusually, like to climb trees) and endangered Rothschild's giraffes. You've also a chance of seeing flamingos, leopards and plenty of birds. You might also fall in love with the pretty combination of lake, acacia forest and dramatic escarpment.

Activity Day 1

Afternoon

  • Our expert guide will take you on a game drive and you’ll see a large number of animals and learn so much about wildlife this afternoon in Lake Nakuru National Park.
One of our favorite places to look for wildlife in Kenya is the Masai Mara National Reserve. That's because the wildlife here is incredible, with big cats (lions, leopards and cheetahs) and elephants among the highlights. There's a very good chance you'll also see giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, hyenas, and, of course, impalas. And bring your binoculars, because more than 500 species of birds have been recorded in the reserve. It's a place of beautiful savannah landscapes as well, with lots of acacia trees.
Enjoy longer in the Masai Mara National Reserve, getting to know its many natural charms.

Activity Day 3

All Day

  • Come and see the best of Masai Mara National Reserve as we take you out on a guided game drive. It really is a terrific way to feel a part of Africa with the wind in your hair as we drive you around to look for animals.
Enjoy the freedom to get out of the vehicle and walk around in Hell's Gate National Park. Without any predators to be wary of, the park has some fantastic scenery to explore on foot, with the red cliffs of Hell's Gate Gorge a fine backdrop for seeing zebra, giraffe, impala, buffalo and rock hyrax. Beautiful rock formations and narrow Lower Gorge are highlights of getting to know this park.
You'll be visiting one of the best safari parks in Africa when you come to Amboseli. The park is filled with big-tusked elephants, and Mt Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain (5895m), looms over Amboseli. This combination makes for some fantastic photos, especially when the clouds clear over the summit as they do most days around sunrise and sunset. You also have a good chance of seeing lions, cheetahs, hyenas, zebras, buffaloes, giraffes (out in the park's east), wildebeests and plenty of gazelles. The park is also terrific for birding, with 420 species recorded.

Activity Day 5

Afternoon

  • The guided game drive is the best thing about going on safari and that's what you'll be doing this afternoon in Amboseli National Park. From the comfort of your vehicle, there's always a chance that you might see some of the animals that you came so far to see.
Spend more time getting to know magnificent Amboseli National Park.
This is when your tour with us draws to a close. As we go our separate ways, we've no doubt that you leave us with new friends and with so many wonderful experiences that will live long in your memory. We also feel sure that you'll return to travel with us once again in the not-too-distant future.
