Mt Kenya Hike

Our 5 Days Mount Kenya hike via Sirmon Route gives you an opportunity to conquer  Africa’s second highest mountain at 5,199m (17,058 feet) and the highest of all Kenya Mountains. Mount Kenya is roughly circular, about 60km across at the 200mm contour, where the steep font hills rise out of the gentler slopes of the centered highlands. At the centre of the massif, the main peaks rise sharply from around 4,500m to the main summit of Batian 5,199m, Nelion 5,188m and point Lenana 4,985m. Other major summits on the mountain include Point Piggott 4,957m, Point Dutton 4,885 and Point John 4,883m. Of the three main peaks (Batian, Lenana and Nelion), only point Lenana can be reached by trekkers and the other two being only for technical climbers

– A big backpack in which to put all the equipments. This will be

– A summit pack in which to put personal equipments like water, camera


– A warm mountain sleeping bag (4 seasons recommended)

– Hiking boots which should be sturdy and water proof

– Camp shoes. Sneakers are ok.

– Leg gaiters

– Water bottle. If you have camel pack that’s okay.

– 3 – 4 pairs of woolen socks

– Both fleece jacket and pants

– Polypro under wear both top and bottom

– Water proof jacket with hood (Gore-Tex recommended) and pants

– Warm mittens or gloves

– Warm thermal hat

– Sun glasses

– Sunscreen

– Head torch plus batteries

– Sleeping mat, Thermarest is good

– Hiking poles

Day 1
Nairobi - Sirmon Gate - Old Moses Camp 3300mts
We transfer the hikers from Nairobi to Sirimon Park Gate through the equator and Kikuyu farmlands. Start the 3hrs hike to Oldmoses camp (3300mts) for overnight. You pass through the forest Zone, which is rich in giant Bamboo's, rosewood and part of heather zone.
Day 2
Old Moses Camp 3300mts - Shiptons camp (4200mts)
Have an early breakfast. Gradually hike to Ship tons camp (4200mts). This is a 6 to 7 hrs walk and you will be gaining an altitude of 700mts.You Will pass through the moor land zone which includes tussock grass, lobelias And cabbage groundsel among others.
Day 3
Acclimatization and rest day at Ship tons camp and in the afternoon hike on the surrounding peaks (Sendeyo and Tereri) and then return to the camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 4
Shimpton to Lenana Point and Decend to Meru MT Kenya Bandas
Pre-dawn summit attempt of point Lenana (4985mts). You will start the day at 4.30am for the summit attempt, an ascent of 685 ms; the highlight Being the watching of African sunrise and if it’s clear enough having a view Of MT Kilimanjaro. Descend to Mintos hall area 4300mts for brunch and short rest. Afterwards descend to Chogoria park gate (3000mts) a descent of 1300mts through the Gorges Valley to Meru MT Kenya Bandas. Have dinner and Overnight.
Day 5
Drive Back to Nairobi
After breakfast descend via the scenic forest to meet with your pick vehicle and transfer back to Nairobi You can request us to plan your safari to nearby Meru National Park or any other destination in Kenya.
